Out and About in Ireland
Hi, my friends! Welcome to Flora’s first blog! Today is Feb 9th, 2020. It is my fourth day in Ireland! The top picture was taken in Ballsbridge, it was so pretty at night time.
I kinda want to food blog. I will try to take picture of every meal that I had and post it on here.
I met up with Nicole, Ron, Daniel, Kylee and Lex at the Dublin airport. It was such released to be with a group of people. I was a little bit worried, because I didn’t purchase any prepaid phone plan, and I didn’t change any euros before I left. I am just glad that everything worked out. Kylee was so nice, she was like the mom of the group. She was always taking care of people, and leading the way. We took a train to the city center. After Lex got check-in at her hostel, we decided to get some food together. We ended up going to the Temple bar, one of the most famous bar in Dublin. I order the Red Ale, and Lex had the Pale Ale. It was funny, when I was asking the bartender the difference between the red ale and pale ale, He just went “well, one is red, one is pale.”

Later than day, when we went to our Airbnb. We went out and had our dinner at a bar called the bridge. I remembered that people kept telling me before I left for Ireland, they were like in Europe they charge you for water, and they don’t do a good job on serving. In reality, they don’t charge you for water, and all the waitress and waiters that served us were good and kept on checking our table after dropping off the food. It was really nice that we don’t need to tip here in Europe, I feel like that alone saved me a lot of money.
Also, I noticed that the bacon here is not quite as the same back in the US. It tasted more like ham, and it did not have as much fat as the one in US. I like the US one better. This one was good, but it just doesn’t have the grease feeling to it. Besides that, I tried to ask them if they have ranch and they don’t, but they did have a garlic sauce that kinda taste like ranch but more garlic favor.
The following few days we just walked around the city center. I really wanted to go to Guinness warehouse beer teasing, and the whiskey museum, but I think our class would go later as a group, so we didn’t end up going. We did wander into Molly Malone’s statues, and I touch her boobs for the good luck. It was weird, because in the first, I did not realize that was the status. I just saw this one guy touching her boobs and taking picture, I was thinking that’s sick, stop it. Then, I realized that was the statue of Molly Malone. I wonder who started this weird tradition– touching boobs for good luck.
Dan heard that this is a bar called Kearney bar that has UNK flag in it, so we wanted to check it out. Nahh, it turned out that they don’t have our flag. It was a cool bar tho!
Before I left, I was really worried about that I won’t be able to understand the Irish accent. It has been okay since I got here. People in Dublin, their accent was easy to catch up with. I definitely noticed as we were heading towards the west coast, the accent gets thicker and harder to understand. Well, guess we will see in the next couple of days how well I could do with their accent.
See you guys at my next blog!
